The latest class of our amazing teen moms graduated from our GED Program last week, and our GED Graduation Ceremony was complete with caps and gowns! Board Member Connie Reding served as our commencement speaker, and the evening ended with a reception featuring a gorgeous cake decorated by one of our very own volunteers.
For many of our teen moms, this is the first time that they have attended an event that celebrates an accomplishment of their very own, which makes it a very special night. Some of our girls have supportive family members who attend and cheer them on, and Hope House staff is there to cheer for the girls whose families do not show up — which is not uncommon.
Earning their GED certification is an important first step toward self-sufficiency for our teen moms as the majority of them have just a 9th grade education. Hope House looks forward to continuing to empower our GED graduates through our College & Career Support Programs as they continue to strive for economic independence.
