As you may have read in our recent communication, Hope House had to cancel its Spring GED Graduation for the first time ever.
As a result of the privatization of the GED test and the fact that the new test is more difficult, not one Hope House teen mom had earned her GED as of July 8.
At that point, we made the decision to open our GED Lab and Early Learning Program one additional evening per week, a 33% increase in hours — and we asked you to jump on board and provide the finances to sustain this increase in services.
I am so excited to announce that the increase in GED Lab hours is working… we now have our first GED graduates of the year! We still have a long way to go to catch up, but the fact that we now have five graduates is an encouraging sign.
Everyone is coming together:
– our teen moms stepped up to the challenges presented by a significantly more difficult test.
– our tutors stepped up by volunteering for additional shifts.
– you stepped up with your generous support and financial gifts. In fact, we have already raised $17,800 of the $25,000 we need to maintain this pace through the end of the year.
I am continually amazed and humbled by the amazing community of support that gathers around our teen moms to help them create new lives for themselves and their children. From our tutors to our donors, each person is making a vital difference for our teen moms and our community.
I cannot thank you enough for your support. Your calls of encouragement and your prayers have inspired our staff and our teen moms as we continue to work this daunting challenge. Together, we truly are a team.
Blessings,
Lisa Steven
P.S. We are within $7,000 of raising the funds we need to keep our GED Lab open one extra day per week for the rest of the year. Please consider helping us reach our goal by making a donation — your gift will make a tangible difference in the lives of our teen moms!to jump on board and provide the finances to sustain this increase in services.
