Katy joined the Hope House staff in January 2023. Prior to working at Hope House, Katy worked as a Montessori teacher for 10 years and is director qualified for a large early learning center in Colorado. Katy holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia and a Montessori certification from Montessori Centre International (MCI). During her decade as a teacher, Katy recognized through conversations with parents that many felt they lacked helpful resources on how to parent their children through the various stages of childhood. Having grown up in Bogotá and then marrying and raising her three children in the United States, Katy could relate to some of the challenges parents face as they seek resources and support. This led Katy to quit her job as a teacher for children so she could create classes for parents in schools, conferences and workshops. This transition also led her to become a Hope House volunteer until the opportunity came about for her to fill the parenting educator role full-time. Katy is passionate about supporting teen moms’ parenting goals as she believes the early years are the most important for children and their parents so they can create a bond that will grow stronger over time with a great community by their side.
