Susan joined the Hope House staff in September 2025. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and English from Kansas State University, and a Master’s degree in Literature. She began her career as a high school English teacher in Kansas City, finding joy when her students came alive from a new idea or concept. She also coached basketball for 11 years. Additionally, she taught college writing. When her daughter was young, Susan shifted to writing, editing and photography. Most recently, she worked in an autistic clinic wearing every hat imaginable, but developed a passion for supporting families, therapists, and kids. Outside of work, she enjoys photography, reading, writing and spending time with her husband, daughter and their joy-filled dog.
