Susan joined the Hope House staff in September 2025. She earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education and English from Kansas State University, and a master’s degree in literature. She began her career as a high school English teacher in Kansas City, finding the most fulfillment in the moments when curiosity took hold and a new idea or concept came to life for her students. She also coached basketball for 11 years. When her daughter was young, Susan shifted to writing, editing and photography. Most recently, she worked in an autism clinic wearing every hat imaginable while developing a passion for supporting families. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, reading, writing and spending time with her husband, daughter and their adventurous Doberman.
